SAA Mobile Fleet Equipment Restoration Program

photo

As part of our overall capital program the Saskatoon Airport Authority has a Mobile Fleet Equipment Restoration Program. This Equipment Restoration Program is in place to ensure our snow removal and fire fighting capabilities are continuously modernized and updated to reflect technological advances and growth in our business.

To that end, the SAA has purchased two new vehicles called "Snow Maulers" to replace our runway plough trucks. The two new Snow Maulers arrived in late December; two new sweeper units are expected in the spring of 2007. The addition of this new equipment will allow our airfield staff to clear our airfield faster as the new equipment is designed to travel at higher speeds.

The new Snow Maulers were put in use after the January 10th storm with great results and many positive comments from hangar line tenants as well as our airfield staff.

The Authority is committed to this Mobile Fleet Equipment Restoration Program and allocates several hundred thousand dollars annually to the program to ensure our fleet can provide the service required to maintain the Saskatoon Airport and keep it operational in all but the most severe weather conditions (as we experienced on January 10th 2007). In the next two years the Authority will take delivery of our two new sweepers and purchase a new grader and tractor in 2007, and in 2008 two new fire trucks and a loader are scheduled for a total capital replacement cost in excess of two million dollars.

Storm Warriors

The Saskatoon Airport Authority extends our sincere gratitude to the airport community and traveling public.

We can all remember earlier this month the blizzard conditions which our city was encountering, with record snowfall and gusting winds.

We are very thankful to the airport community and the visiting public for your patience.

As well, to all who pitched in with your shovels, as well as those who provided assistance by lending a hand (and pushing shoulder) . . .

THANK YOU!
