The Saskatoon Airport Authority is pleased to present another edition of our E-News, which delivers information about Saskatoon's Airport to our customers and community partners four times a year.

Growing with the Community

Record Passenger Traffic Continues!

The Saskatoon Airport welcomed a record 90,000 passengers in August - a new benchmark for air travel in our community and a nine percent increase over last August. September continued the trend with another record month. Year to date the volume of traffic is nine percent ahead of 2006 and it is inevitable we will break the one million passenger threshold before the year is done!

WELCOME MICHELLE (HIPHIP) BOURRETT!

photo Michelle Bourrett

The Saskatoon Airport Authority welcomes Michelle Bourrett; WestJet Base Manager.

Michelle started her career with WestJet nine years ago in her home town of Regina. Following a six-month stint as Team Leader in Abbottsford she ventured east to assume the role of Station Manager at Hamilton. We are not sure of the story, but somewhere along the way she acquired her nickname "HipHip."

As a prairie girl, the decision to move back to her home province was an easy one for Michelle. She is excited to be here working with a new group of people and partners. When not at the airport, Michelle finds time to practice yoga and swim with the Saskatoon Masters. Welcome Michelle.

CATSA — Canadian Air Transport Security Authority

CATSA logo

Ever wonder what happens to those items intercepted as they go through security? Rick Townsend, Site Manager for CATSA in Saskatoon says travelers basically have four choices for those items not accepted at screening. Those options include:

  1. Time permitting, return to the airline check-in counter to have the item put in your checked baggage.
  2. Send your "carry-on" bag as "checked" luggage.
  3. Use the "Mail It Home" service. The item must fit in the envelope provided and meet the post office standards. There is a $3.00 charge for this service.
  4. Exclusive to Saskatoon is "Same Day Pickup" service which provides for the item to be held for pick-up for a maximum of 24 hours.

Amazingly, over 466 liquid items and 475 prohibited items such as scissors and pocket knives were intercepted during the month of September alone!

Disposing of these items is no small task and takes considerable organizing. Metal items are donated to a local church charity while sealed liquids such as shampoo are donated to a local shelter. Open liquids are safely disposed of and their containers recycled whenever possible. Dangerous goods items such as matches are sent to the fire hall and weapons, ammunition and fireworks are sent to the local police.

For useful information on those items which are acceptable through security screening visit the CATSA website at www.catsa.ca.
