Strategic Approach & Focus

photo The Saskatoon Airport Authority is a community-based, not-for-profit corporation that took over operations of the Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport from Transport Canada in 1999 under a lease from the Government of Canada.

The Authority's Board of Directors and the Company's management team regard effective corporate governance as key to the proper execution of their responsibilities to the community, province and other stakeholders.

In 2006, the Board and Management of the Authority renewed the organizations strategic plan, which resulted in the refinement of our vision and mission statement.

The Board of Directors of the Saskatoon Airport Authority has established the following vision statement to guide it between 2006 and 2011:

Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport will provide the best airport experience and aviation environment in North America

The Saskatoon Airport Authority is a not-for-profit community based organization. Consistent with its letters patent, the Board has set the mission for the Authority as:

The Saskatoon Airport Authority will operate a world-class airport and be a leader and partner in the development of Saskatoon and Saskatchewan

What comes next?

Building from the new vision and mission, Saskatoon Airport Authority has established the following 2006 - 2011 Strategic Objectives, which will guide all of our planning activities for achieving our vision:

  1. Maintain a talented, flexible and motivated team of professionals
  2. Improve airport facilities and service, and enhance customer satisfaction
  3. Develop Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport into a stronger regional gateway
  4. Obtain changes to federal and provincial regulatory policies
  5. Increase the awareness and image of Saskatoon and Saskatchewan

Groundside Parking Redevelopment Project:

photo Unseasonably wet weather in the spring and again throughout September has slowed progress on the Groundside Parking Redevelopment Project.

Phase 1 was completed in August and included a new airport access road, excavation, storm sewer and electrical trenching and installation as well as common excavation and earthwork in the expanded area of the parking lot.

Major components of Phase 2 including the new parking lot kiosk, installation of the new entry and exit equipment and the asphalt and cement work associated with the entry area have been completed. Electrical distribution continues throughout Phase 2 with parking lot plug and street lighting installation ongoing. Asphalt surfacing is now complete on the roadway from the new kiosk to the existing parking lot and also in the northeast half of the expanded lot. The new kiosk is scheduled to start operations in late October.

Phase 3 work will continue weather permitting and includes the decommissioning and removal of the old kiosk, paving in the south half of the expanded lot, and completion of all secondary electrical systems and the installation of all new signage associated with the project.
